REVEALED: The 3 things Chelsea failed to do against Everton
The wait for Frank Lampard’s first win at Goodison Park continues after the Blues lost 1-0 on Saturday despite dominating possession for large periods of the games.
While Edouard Mendy is to be blamed for conceding the penalty that led to Everton’s goal, the Blues should have won this game if we did certain things right.
Here are 3 things we failed to do against Everton:
– Utilising Reece James’ crosses
Chelsea right-back Reece James put in some brilliant crosses into the box for the Blues but our forwards always failed to connect to his crosses. Olivier Giroud, who is known for his brillianr aeriel prowess, just wasn’t at his best against Everton.
-Giroud was too isolated up front
The Blues made it too easy for Everton defenders by leaving Giroud isolated for much of the game. Timo Werner didn’t come inside to offer support to the centre-forward as he normally does and this left Giroud isolated. For Werner to cut inside, Chilwell had to push further up the pitch but the England international didn’t offer too much going forward.
-Accurate passes in the final third
Chelsea were guilty of sloppy passes in the final third which killed so many attacking moves against Everton. Kai Havertz was guilty of losing possession so many times and it was just frustrating to watch.
Hopefully we would return to our brilliant attacking best against Wolves on Tuesday.
