Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is reportedly keen on signing Napoli forward Dries Mertens this summer after failing to sign the Belgian international during the January transfer window.
Lampard wants the Belgian at Stamford Bridge due to his ability to play across various positions.
According to Goal, Mertens wants assurances he will be a regular starter before opting to join Chelsea. After scoring 12 goals and adding six assists in 29 appearances in the 2019-20 season for Napoli, Mertens isn’t willing to be just a squad player at Stamford Bridge.
Mertens is also seeking at least a two year contract. Chelsea typically offer one year deals to players above 30 but the Blues seem to have relaxed on that these days.
