REVEALED: What Jose Mourinho said about Zouma has finally come to pass
Chelsea fans may blame Jose Mourinho for losing some top talents like Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne, but the Portuguese also made some good decisions about some relatively unknown players, and one of which was the signing of Kurt Zouma.
Mourinho trusted the young defender during his time as Chelsea manager, and Zouma became a key figure in defence despite the amount of top talents at the club.
A knee injury in 2016 kept him out of action for about a year, and upon his return he had two loan spells at Stoke City and Everton.
Zouma returned to Chelsea last season, and didn’t look too impressive, but Mourinho had given his verdict that the Frenchman was a top player.
“I just give an example: Chelsea needs a centre-back – Kurt Zouma. You don’t need to buy, you don’t need to spend. Zouma,” Mourinho told Sky Sports in 2019.
“He’s champion of England, he played for Chelsea, played for Stoke in the Premier League, played for Everton in the Premier League, played for France.
“He’s your player, he’s on loan, where are you going to buy a better player than him?”
Now 26, Zouma has been a key figure at the back for Chelsea this season, and his performances this term has been nothing short of special.
