The Blues are set to face Aston Villa away from home when their Premier League season resumes later this month and Blues head coach Frank Lampard has one selection problem
The 2019/20 Premier League season is set to resume later this month. June 17 is the date penciled in for Arsenal’s trip to Manchester City as well as the showdown between Aston Villa and Sheffield United at Villa Park.
However, there is still one player who won’t be available for selection And that’s midfielder Jorginho because of suspension.
The Italy international had an interesting few days before football was halted as he talked himself into a yellow card against Bayern Munich which means he’s suspended for the return leg in the Champions League.
His lack of discipline was once again on show in the very next game as in the 18th minute of the Blues’ game against Bournemouth, the midfielder was shown a yellow card for a foul on Philip Billing. That was caution number 10 in the Premier League this season which equals a two-game ban.
One of which has already been served as he miss the 4-0 win over Everton at Stamford Bridge, but won’t feature against Aston Villa. Luckily for Lampard, he has plenty of options to cover for Jorginho’s absence.
He could keep faith in Blues wonderkid Billy Gilmour after back-to-back standout performances in the middle of the park against both Merseyside teams. Or he could hand a recall to either Kovacic or Kante.
