Daily Mirror’s Sam Meade has revealed why Lampard has preferred Giroud to Abraham in recent games.
However, Tammy Abraham has been Chelsea’s first choice striker this season but he has dropped to the bench since the restart of the season, with Chelsea boss Frank Lampard preferring Olivier Giroud.
“There’s no doubt Tammy Abraham is the future at the Blues, but Lampard has chosen to start the veteran Giroud ahead of him in recent games,” Sam Meade wrote for the Daily Mirror.
“Short sighted perhaps, but it is absolutely the right decision.
“The young Englishman still has plenty to learn, but at this crunch time of the season there isn’t much time for pleasantries.
“Giroud is far more effective at bringing his team-mates in to play, which is always crucial.
“And despite his reputation for not being a prolific No 9 the World Cup winner is finding the back of the net in recent games, dating back to before lockdown.”
