OPINION
Chelsea left back Emerson had an interesting afternoon in his team’s 2-1 win over Fulham on Sunday.
He wasn’t awful, but neither did he really press his claim for a first team spot ahead of Marcos Alonso in the long term. The Spaniard has had a poor season by his standards, and so Emerson had a chance to make a real impact at Craven Cottage.
However, the Italy international looked pretty average from start to finish and didn’t really end up affecting the game at all.
He made a nice run to take the Fulham defenders away from Eden Hazard, who went on to set Jorginho up for Chelsea’s second goal.
But it’s hard to think of many other moments where the left back truly influenced proceedings.
Alonso won’t be quaking in his boots anyway, that’s for sure.
The criticism from some Chelsea supporters is probably a little harsh, but overall you have to view this game as a missed opportunity for Emerson.
