Craig Burley has urged Roman Abramovich to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz for Chelsea this summer.
The deal for winger Hakim Ziyech has already been announced, and the winger will be arriving at the club for just £37 million, while reports also suggest that Timo Werner has agreed a massive five-year deal with the club.
Now, Former Chelsea star Burley would like to see Havertz join Lampard’s project in west London and believes the signing would be a ‘statement’ from owner Abramovich. ‘You cant have enough good players,’ ex-Chelsea and Scotland midfielder Burley told ESPN FC.
‘It would be a statement of intent to go out and get one of Europe’s most exciting young talents. ‘It does fit with the narrative that Chelsea and Lampard are going down. They are looking to sign younger players with sell-on value but who can also produce the good now.
‘If they get Werner, he can play wide or through the middle. Havertz is flexible as well. They may be a little top-heavy, in terms of their forward line. ‘But it would be a statement from Abramovich to say, “we’ve given you Werner and we also want Havertz, one of the brightest talents in European football”.
‘That’s a very exciting sign for Chelsea fans, but I doubt they will be in that race alone because Havertz is probably on everybody’s radar.’
Chelsea have already made statements by signing Werner and Ziyech, but adding this young man would be the icing on the cake, especially as there are reports that they are in deep talks to agree a five-year deal with the German.
He is brilliant and will go on to become one of the best in the game, and even for that £70 million asking price, he would still be seen as a real bargain in the market, he has that much talent. Havertz is the next target and then Lampard will surely look to improve that back-line?
