Middlesbrough headed into the game against Chelsea full of confidence after beating Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in previous rounds of the FA Cup but Chelsea were too strong for Chris Wilder’s side.
However, Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder hailed the winning mentality of Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger following Chelsea’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Middlesbrough on Saturday.
First-half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech helped secure the victory over Middlesbrough.
Wilder said: “Their skipper [Cesar Azpilicueta], Thiago [Silva] and [Antonio] Rudiger just want to win and that’s why they win things and are champions.”
Wilder added: “We played a full hit Man United, a full hit Tottenham and a full hit Chelsea.
“We hung in there with United and beat them on penalties. We fully deserved it versus Tottenham and we couldn’t find the right defensive moments tonight.”
