“There’s a certain logic fom Tuchel” – Lille boss finally reveals why his team lost to Chelsea
The Blues are finally through to the Champions League quarter-final after beating Lille 4-1 on aggregate.
However, Lille boss Jocelyn Gourvennec believes his team were unlucky to lose to Chelsea and feels the turning point in the game was Xeka’s header off the Chelsea post and two of Lille defenders having to go off injured.
He said: “There’s a certain logic to us being knocked out, but tonight’s defeat is very hard to take.
“We played well in the first half, but their goal just before the break meant we had only 45 minutes to do what we had planned to do in 90.
“The turning point was Xeka’s header off the post and two of our defenders having to go off.”
He added: We really did well. The players can be proud of what they have done. The fans were exceptional today.
“We showed heart and bravery. It’s tough to lose tonight, we didn’t deserve that. We leave with our heads held high.”
