“They’re scruffy on the ball” “No sense of football” – Gary Neville slams three Chelsea stars for what they did in 3-1 win over Crystal Palace

Gary Neville was critical of three Chelsea players, following Jefferson Lerma’s brilliant strike to put Crystal Palace ahead during the Blues’ 3-1 win at Selhurst Park.

Madueke’s sloppy pass to Moises Caicedo was robbed off the Ecuador midfielder by Tyrick Mitchell, before the ball later fell to Lerma, who fired an unstoppable shot into the top right corner of Petrovic’s goal to send Palace 1-0 up.

Neville, who was on match duties for Sky Sports was left unimpressed by the poor effort from Madueke and Caicedo, as well as from Thiago Silva, whose poor clearance started the Palace attack.

He said: “It’s a strange clearance from Thiago Silva.

“Noni Madueke is and Moises Caicedo can’t keep hold of it. You’re thinking have a crack and by heck, he does.”

The Manchester United great added: “Chelsea are taking a million touches on the ball and then going backwards.

“It feels unnatural. Get some tempo in your play. Palace are not going to try to press.

“Crystal Palace are just starting to work out that this Chelsea team are pretty average. They’re so slow. It drives me crazy. Palace have grown through the hopelessness of Chelsea.

“I know they’ve spent a few quid but they’re not doing anything. They’re just passing the ball to each other and think they’re doing OK.”

Chelsea later won the game 3-1, thanks to a much-better second-half-performance from the players, with Conor Gallagher and Enzo Fernandez scoring the goals for the visitors.
