Thiago Silva sends a big message to Chelsea board

Chelsea veteran Thiago Silva already hoping to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge as the Brazilian eyes to extend his time at the club beyond next summer.

Silva, 36 was signed as a free agent in Summer which raised a fair few eyebrows. Plenty of fans and pundits voiced their concerns about his age and rightness to English football. He has had a bad time in his first game however since then has come back stronger to answer his critics.

Lampard has used him carefully so far this campaign given his age, but he’s played eight games across all competitions so far. He has developed a stable partnership with Kurt Zouma at the heart of the backline this season.

Chelsea have conceded just one goal in the last six games with him on the pitch while keeping four clean sheets. Silva also scored his first goal for the Blues in the league against Sheffield United recently and is now included in the list of nominations for October’s Premier League Player of the Month award.

The transfer looks to be a masterstroke from Lampard who looks a leader within the Chelsea group. Now to Chelsea fans’ delight Silva too has admitted that he is clearly loving life in London and likes to extend his contract beyond the summer:

“I have learned in [a lot of different competitions] and I use it to help young players,” Silva said whilst on international duty with Brazil.

“This is my first experience in the Premier League. I hope to continue to play well and that my contract will be renewed.”

Thiago Silva was signed on a one-year contract with an option to extend for a further year and given his influence in the side, it is just a matter of time before the Blues trigger the extension.
