‘To replace them, you will have to spend a fortune’ —  Glen Johnson sends contract warning message to Chelsea board

According to reports, Four Chelsea players are in the final year of their contracts, with Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger all in the last months of their Chelsea contract.

However, The Blues have high hopes of retaining Azpilicueta and Silva, but it is deals for Christensen and Rudiger that are posing the most problems.

Christensen was believed to be close to a new deal, but reports then claimed that his representatives had asked for more money after the initial agreement was met.

For Rudiger, the Chelsea board seem far from reaching an agreement with the German over a new deal.

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has told Chelsea to do everything possible to tie down Christensen and Rudiger to a new deal and claims it would be a disaster otherwise.

Johnson told Betting Odds: “From a business standpoint, it would be a disaster.”

“Whether the club wants them both there long term is irrelevant because to replace those two players you’re going to have to spend an absolute fortune.

“Even to give them both a year long deal with the intention of selling them after six months would make more sense than letting them walk out on a free.

“It would be terrible business regardless of whether the club fancies them as players or not.”
