Todd Boehly reveals why he wants to ‘get rid’ of £272k-a-week star at Chelsea
According to latest reports, Chelsea forward Timo Werner is up for sale this summer. This is according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.
However, Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly were both given to Thomas Tuchel by Boehly upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge, but Crook thinks the American tycoon is attempting to transfer some of the Blues’ highest-paid players.
Chelsea has had a difficult summer despite the addition of two high-profile players. They were unable to sign Raphinha and Jules Kounde, while Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger left for Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively.
Werner is one of the players who the Blues may need to let go of before making any other acquisitions.
Further-more, Football London reports that Chelsea are considering offers for the German international, who has struggled on the field since moving to Chelsea for £45 million from Leipzig two years ago.
Werner earns £272,000 a week at Stamford Bridge, but he has scored just 10 goals in 56 Premier League games, failing to live up to those high wages.
Crook believes Werner’s exit could start a maximum exodus of departures at Chelsea since he didn’t live up to expectations during his time playing English football.
Crook told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Boehly is looking to get rid of him, along with a lot of the high earners.
“I think Boehly would rather keep players like Levi Colwill and Armando Broja and build for the future and cash in on people like Werner, [Callum Hudson Odoi], who haven’t lived up to expectations, [Ross] Barkley and maybe even N’Golo Kante.”
