Todd Boehly makes ‘huge’ Liverpool and Man City transfer decision after £200m talks with Tuchel
Todd Boehly has given Thomas Tuchel a major vote of confidence ahead of the forthcoming transfer window, with the new Chelsea owners anxious to add to the team.
However, According to the MailOnline, the American-led group that agreed to acquire Stamford Bridge for £4.25 billion last week would ‘push for A-list stars’ to usher in a new era at the west London club.
Tuchel is poised to have £200 million at his disposal after player sales are taken into consideration, according to The Telegraph, with the LA Dodgers co-owner ready to reinforce the Blues’ armoury.
According to the article, Chelsea’s new owners have assured the German that he will be able to ‘take the lead’ on the club’s transfer business, in a move that will bring the club closer to the Manchester City and Liverpool models.
Boehly is thought to be eager to close the gap between the west Londoners and the Premier League’s front-runners. According to The Guardian, Chelsea have already added Raheem Sterling, Christopher Nkunku, Jonathan David, Darwin Nunez, and Ousmane Dembele to their summer wish list.
The likes of Jules Kounde, Josko Gvardiol and Presnel Kimpembe have also been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with Tuchel keen to undergo a rebuild. Speaking to football.london, the Blues boss said: “We are rebuilding, not improving the squad. We are rebuilding. This is always challenging, but we are up for the challenge.
“I don’t know where we are from day one. What I can promise is that I will be here – if I can promise that – I will be here with full energy and positive energy no matter what. We will still work for Chelsea, and I refuse to think of negative scenarios. We will be competitive, on which level we will see.”
Meanwhile, it is understands that Jules Kounde is the west London club’s priority following the takeover. The Sevilla defender is keen on moving to the Blues, almost 12 months after his proposed switch to Stamford Bridge collapsed at the final hurdle.
There is a growing expectation that Chelsea will get the Kounde deal over the line this time around, but their search for defenders is set to continue after that. The transition which grants Tuchel greater power in the transfer windows follows the tremendous success that Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have enjoyed.
The pair have made a habit of signing specialist players who hit the ground running and seamlessly slot into the club’s philosophy. Chelsea, on the other hand, have suffered in that respect and have been very hit-and-miss with acquisitions.
