Tuchel reveals he used a new formation in Aston Villa clash
What a difficult EFL Cup third round tie against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel made wholesome changes to the playing squad, as he had Manchester City in mind coming this weekend.
The Chelsea team managed to get a win over Villa, but it came via a penalty shootout, after both sides settled for a 1-1 draw at full time.
Speaking after the game, Tuchel admitted that the game was bound to be difficult as he made too many changes to the squad and also played out a new formation.
“We had many changes, the team had never played in this formation,” said Tuchel.
“This needs a bit of time on the field, but it was important we don’t expect too much in terms of how we create chances.
We expected energy and teamwork, and this is what we got out of it. With every minute we got more confident.”
