‘We known each other for over 20 years’ – Billionaire man angry with latest Raine Group decision on Chelsea sale
A lot of bids were put in for the Chelsea sale, but Raine Group, who are handling the sale have since reduced the bidders to a shortlist of three.
However, Consortiums headed by Todd Boehly, Sir Martin Broughton and Stephen Pagliuca are the bidders left, with the Ricketts family having withdrawn their bid.
The three bidders are awaiting the next phase of the bidding process, and according to the London Evening Standard, Raine Group are deliberating over the three remaining contenders ahead of presenting a preferred bidder to the UK Treasury to issue a licence for Roman Abramovich to sell.
Meanwhile, reports claim that American billionaire Steven Pagliuca is angry over claims his Chelsea bid will be dismissed this week.
The report adds that consortiums led by Todd Boehly and Sir Martin Broughton will battle it out for the club ownership over the coming week.
The Raine Group had brought in a new policy, that the new Chelsea owners won’t sell the club for the next ten years, in order to maintain stability.
Last week, Pagliuca and Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) chairman Larry Tanenbaum promised lifetime ownership of Chelsea if their bid proved to be successful.
Pagliuca said: “Larry and I have known each other for over 20 years and we are committed to this being a lifetime ownership. It is a long-term commitment that both families want to make.”
