“We were always afraid under Lampard”- Chelsea summer signing admits
Before the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea were far behind in the race for top four, and talks of a title clash had since been forgotten.
Five defeats in eight league games had seen Chelsea drop to 9th place, with morale low in the club.
With Chelsea’s form looking bad, the board decided to call it quits with the club legend – a decision that was seen as controversial by many.
However, things have turned around since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel. The German boss has guided Chelsea to three consecutive wins after the goalless draw against Wolves for his first game in charge.
Chelsea striker Timo Werner, who was signed during the summer, has admitted that the players became afraid when the results started to go bad under Lampard.
“If we go back three or four matches, when the manager was not yet here, we were nine or ten points behind the top four,” Werner told Chelsea’s 5th Stand app.
“We watched the table and were like, ‘oh, it might not be so good at the end of the season’.
“Now we are really good, back in shape, and I think if we keep going like this we can put more pressure on the other teams.”
