‘We will not see him at Chelsea next season’ – Tuchel warned after latest player’s decision
Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku was dropped in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Lille in the Champions League, However, it was claimed the Belgian left disappointed after being dropped
Meanwhile, The Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has been warned Lukaku will push to leave the club at the end of the season if he doesn’t start against Liverpool after he was dropped to the bench against Lille.
That’s the view of Reds legend Jamie Carragher, who believes if Thomas Tuchel opts to use a different system with Kai Havertz the Belgian could be looking for a way out in the summer.
Havertz was given the chance to lead the line following Lukaku’s disastrous display against Crystal Palace at the weekend which saw him touch the ball just seven times in 90 minutes.
Carragher told CBS Sports: “I think the big thing at the weekend, we are talking about the cup final now. We don’t know, yet to see what the team is.”
“But I think not playing in a Champions League knockout game, then not playing in a cup final. I mean alarm bells will be going if I was Lukaku.
“I don’t think he is the type of player you can have on the bench. I don’t believe that. I don’t believe he will be on the bench long-term.
“We are seeing that with Timo Werner right now. But Lukaku is a bigger name. Bigger presence and he is a better player than someone like Werner.
“If they go with Havertz and almost like a different system, like a false nine, then I don’t think we will see Lukaku at the club next season.”
