Xavi makes official announcement ahead of possible star arrival at Chelsea
According to latest reports, Barcelona boss Xavi has said that he wants to keep Ousmane Dembele at Barcelona amid links with Chelsea.
The France forward, 24, has failed to agree a new contract at the Nou Camp, with his current deal set to expire this summer, and that has led to alot of speculation that he could come to the Premier League
Chelsea are very much interested in getting some kind of transfer deal done, especially after the Spanish club told him he could leave the club during the January transfer window after failing to agree that new contract.
That suggested that Chelsea were preparing to offer him a massive contact at the end of the season to tempt him to Stamford Bridge on a massive deal, but that idea seems to now be out of the window.
After making a sensational return back to Barcelona, Xavi has reignited the career of Dembele at the Spaniards and has not indicated that he wants to keep the French winger at the club beyond the season.
Speaking in a press conference, the Spaniard said “Ousmane’s contract ends in June and we’ll see what happens. The decision to renew depends on him, but to me he’s a player I like.
‘I heard a lot of fake stories about him – it’s the opposite. He’s been a great professional, trust me.”:
There is a long way to go before Dembele gets the contract that he is reportedly demanding and there is still a real chance that Chelsea could move in and get a transfer deal done.
