Confirmed: VAR referee who failed to give Maguire red card to officiate Chelsea vs Liverpool

Chelsea set to host Liverpool in the FA Cup fifth round tie at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

The Football Association has confirmed the officials for this tie, which will see Chris Kavanagh take charge of the meeting in west London.

Chris Kavanagh was the VAR referee for the game between Chelsea and Manchester United last month, and Kavanagh was blamed for failing to send off Harry Maguire for his lunge on Michy Batshuayi’s groin. He also chose to cancel out Kurt Zouma’s goal in that clash in what was another controversial decision.

On Sunday, Kavanagh was in another controversy yet again as he denied Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s dramatic winner against Manchester United in another bizarre VAR decision.

Chelsea fans will be hoping that Kavanagh gets his acts right at the Bridge tonight as the Blues have seen some bad decisions go against them in the games against Manchester United and Tottenham.

Kavanagh has taken charge of three Chelsea matches this season, and the Blues won two of them and lost one. He officiated our game against Brighton (2-0) and Aston Villa (2-1). In the third game, Chelsea were defeated at Newcastle (1-0).
