£66 million machine heading to the Bridge after Tuchel told to sign striker for Chelsea?

Chelsea could look to step up their interest for Erling Haaland after Alan Shearer claimed the club need to sign a new striker.

Despite having the likes of Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud in the squad, Thomas Tuchel has taken over a club that has had problems scoring the goals this season, despite his good start to life at the Bridge.

Werner was supposed to be the man that would add 30-goals to the side, but he has not scored in 14 Premier League outings, while Abraham and Giroud are hit and miss when it comes to finding the back of the net.

That led to Match of the Day pundit Shearer suggesting that Tuchel needs to sanction the signing of a new striker in the coming transfer window, as he needs more firepower in attack in order to take the team ‘to the next level’.

‘He’s [Tuchel] given everyone an opportunity,’ Shearer said on BBC’s Match of the Day 2.

‘He didn’t play [Mason] Mount in the first game, he’s swapped it over with [Ben] Chilwell and [Marcos] Alonso, [Olivier] Giroud has been in there, he’s changed the system slightly. He’s given everyone the opportunity to impress him.

‘I still think they are lacking that top-quality centre-forward to challenge [for the title].

‘They’ll challenge for fourth but I think to go to the next level they’ll need a top centre forward.’

And that means the club could step up their chase to try and sign Erling Haaland.

Haaland is one of the most deadly strikers in the world right now, and is only behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski in the games top scorers across Europe.

It is believed that Tuchel is a massive fan of the striker, that that £66 million release clause is something that the board could easily manage, so if the club cannot get the best out of Werner, then a move for Haaland is the way to go?
