Tuchel finally confirms when Mendy will return from injury
The Blues first choice goalkeeper Edouard Mendy missed last weekend’s game against Tottenham, with Kepa Arrizabalaga keeping in his stead.
However, It was expected that Mendy would be in goal against Spurs, but Tuchel revealed before the game that Mendy took a huge hit in training and won’t feature against Tottenham.
Speaking to the media ahead of facing Aston Villa in the EFL Cup clash on Wednesday, Tuchel ruled Mendy out of that clash and is hoping to have him back in time to face Manchester City this weekend.
“Mendy cannot play, he’s not in training so far,” the Chelsea boss said at a press conference ahead of the Villa game.
“Our hope is to Integrate him back into individual training hopefully tomorrow and then team training later in the week.
“We will try to do everything we can for Saturday [vs Manchester City], but he’s not ready yet.”
He added: “I think it’s possible [to play vs City], but it’s probably a race against pain and time, but I don’t know right now.”
