BREAKING: Palmeiras fan shot dead in Brazil after losing Club World Cup to Chelsea (Video)
According to latest reports via AS, A man was shot dead during a riot on Saturday after trouble broke out among Palmeiras fans who had watched their team lose to English club Chelsea in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, Brazilian police said.
However, The man, who police said was an off-duty prison guard, was shot outside Palmeiras’ stadium in Sao Paulo, where thousands of fans had gathered to watch the match on big screens.
Meanwhile, according to former Blue Craig Burley had surprised everyone when he brandished the FIFA Club World Cup as a worthless trophy that the Chelsea players shouldn’t have celebrated.
For such a ‘worthless trophy’, it meant so much to the Palmeiras fans who were angry after losing to Chelsea.
Palmeiras were aiming to win the annual tournament for the first time and join state rivals Corinthians, Santos and Sao Paulo, all of whom have won the trophy played between the top club sides in the world.
But the Copa Libertadores champions were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea after extra time in Abu Dhabi.
The contest was shown live on big screens outside of Palmeiras’ Allianz Stadium in Brazil, and a number of fights broke out after the Brazilian side lost the game.
Palmeiras fans caused trouble on the streets after their Club World Cup defeat against Chelsea as riot police were forced to patrol Perdizes, Sao Paulo.
A man was said to have been shot dead during the protest, while about 15 were reportedly injured.
“There were some outbreaks of fighting among fans, which unleashed a riot and a man was shot,” a military police statement said.
The Palmeiras fans were passionate beating Chelsea, but resorting to violence was surely not the best way to go.
