Blues ready to sign 24-year-old Eredivisie midfielder as Kante or Jorginho perfect replacement

According to reports, Chelsea will try again to acquire Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez in the winter after nearly doing so in the summer. Chelsea reportedly tried to sign the 24-year-old star for about £40 million, and it appears that he remains their preferred choice as the new owners of the Blues will aim to spend in midfield once more during the upcoming transfer window.

According to the source, Edson himself was eager to be allowed to transfer from Ajax to Chelsea. The Blues had a busy summer, adding star players like Aubameyang, Sterling, and Wesley Fofana. On the final day of the transfer window, Denis Zakaria came on loan from Juventus.

However, One imagines Alvarez could be the perfect option for Chelsea in that defensive midfield department, however, with the midfielder impressing a great deal in his time in the Eredivisie. The Blues could do with making that area of the pitch a priority due to the ageing Kante and Jorginho no longer looking as effective as they once were.

It’s clear that new owner Todd Boehly is ready to be ambitious in the transfer market, with so much spent on new additions this summer and with Chelsea clearly already making plans for winter as well.

Chelsea were big spenders this summer as they brought in a host of new faces such as Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and others.
