The Athletic has validated a report that Chelsea and Inter Milan have reached a preliminary deal about Romelu Lukaku.
Romelu Lukaku will be on loan from Chelsea to Inter, according to The Athletic. The loan price will be €8 million (£6.8 million), plus add-ons to allow Lukaku to return to San Siro.
According to the source, Lukaku will have a medical next week before returning to the team he worked with to win the Serie A championship in 2020–21.
After Chelsea and Inter Milan agreed to a one-season loan agreement, Lukaku reportedly broke down in tears, according to the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
Lukaku has long expressed a desire to return to Inter Milan, where he played before moving to England.
