Announcement on way as Chelsea agree Bundesliga fee for 23-goal star
RB Leipzig and Chelsea have agreed to sell Timo Werner back to them after just two years at Stamford Bridge. Werner made 37 appearances last season across all competitions and registered 11 goals and six assists, but he hasn’t resembled the player who dominated the Bundesliga a few seasons ago.
While 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 games is not a bad record, only nearly half of these contributions came in the Premier League. He was unable to maintain his success.
And there have been reports this transfer window that he is willing to leave the team and go for a new beginning in the hopes that he can start scoring goals, especially since it’s a world cup year.
The German has been linked with a number of teams, and it is thought that the club will let him leave Stamford Bridge if they receive anything over their £30 million asking price.
Juventus had been closely monitoring the status of the German international, but according to several sources, including Fabrizio Romano, Werner will go permanently from Chelsea to Leipzig.
Werner established himself at the Red Bull-affiliated club, where he amassed 95 goals and 40 assists in 159 games. In this world cup year, he is eager to return to the team that helped him become such a prominent player.
