Barcelona wants £50million, as Chelsea submitted £33m for Barcelona player

The Blues is yet to make any January signings, However, according to reports in Spain via The Sun, Chelsea have submitted a bid of £33million for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

But it is expected to be rejected, with the Catalans holding out for £50m for the midfielder.

De Jong has failed to live up to his much-hyped potential since joining Barcelona from Dutch giants Ajax in 2019.

Though the 24-year-old is a regular starter for Barcelona, he has struggled to perform at the standard expected of a £65m signing.

Barcelona are prepared to cut their losses amid interest from Chelsea and German side Bayern Munich.

Barcelona value De Jong at £50million but are wiling to let the Holland international leave if an offer of £42million received.

He was replaced by Pedri at half-time in the semi-final of the Supercopa de Espania in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday night. Barcelona lost 3-2 in extra-time but were much improved by Pedri’s presence.

Given the emergence of Pedri, Gavi and Nico Gonzalez, and Barcelona’s precarious financial state, De Jong is considered a saleable asset.
