Boehly makes ‘personal call’ as Chelsea keen to complete €80M deal in coming days

The controversy surrounding Chelsea’s pursuit of Frenkie De Jong is approaching the length of Manchester United’s earlier pursuit of the midfielder.

At first, we were merely capitalizing on United’s failure to convince him to join and Barcelona’s desperate attempt to offload him. But it appears that we’re now completely sold on the prospect of signing him.

According to the most recent information from Catalonia this afternoon, Todd Boehly personally phoned him in an effort to convince him that Chelsea was really interested in signing him.

It seems it didn’t work – the report says that De Jong remains determined to see out his contract in Barcelona. But it’s said that “despite the no”, Chelsea will keep pushing.

He’s a great player and would make this team better, but we’re well stocked in central midfield now, and we hope we’re not going to get sucked in to chasing this shiny object when there are still big gaps in this team.
