Chelsea could make stunning decision on future of world cup winner in January

Olivier Giroud may be forced to honour his contract at chelsea, says former blues midfielder joe cole.

Giroud has once again been in the transfer headlines over the past few weeks after he came out and admitted that e may have to leave the club in the coming transfer window in order to get more game time.

There have been a number of clubs that have reportedly shown some kind of interest in the frenchman, especially as they know that he is well down the pecking order and would be open to a move.

But the club have a vastly-experienced frontman tied to a contract through to the summer of 2021, and the fact that he adds a physical presence to the side means that we could decide to keep hold of the frenchman until the end of the season.

Cole believes that we do not need to be forced into letting the striker leave, the former blues winger told talksport: “I think giroud has been different class and is a massively important part of the squad.

“frank would love to keep him and chelsea are in a position where if they don’t want him to go he doesn’t have to go as he signed a contract.

“he’ll have a big part to play in what will be a successful year for chelsea.”

Giroud may not be a striker that is able to net 20-goals a season but he does offer the club something different up top, so keeping him until at least the end of the season would be a very good idea for the club to make.
