Chelsea fans receive ‘strong warning’ as Abramovich backs Lampard

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has vowed to backed Chelsea boss Frank Lampard by splashing the cash in the transfer market to strengthen the Chelsea squad.

Hakim Ziyech has been signed from Ajax and Timo Werner is expected to complete his transfer from RB Leipzig soon. The Blues are also pursuing moves for Kai Havertz of Bayer Leverkusen and Ben Chilwell.

Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has warned fans not to expect instant success from their incoming signings.

According to Cundy, it will take Chelsea at least 18 months to reach the level of Liverpool and Manchester City.

“Our transfer windows – there have been some good ones, there have been some mediocre ones, there have been some bad ones,” he told talkSPORT.

“But it feels like we’re starting to push a little bit harder right now. It feels like there’s a base now, which we can build on.

“How far away we are from getting anywhere near the likes of City and Liverpool right now? I think we’re probably, I’d say, 18 months away at least. “Maybe a little bit longer away from getting to that level. Minimum.”
