Chelsea free to wrap up £70m rated Italian as Milan set to announce deal has been wrapped up after medical passed
Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan is closing on a move to AC Milan after passing a medical on Tuesday, meaning Chelsea will be free to sign up Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Maignan is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Serie A club and will cost Milan an initial fee in the region of £12m, with bonuses on top of that.
The 25-year-old, one of Hugo Lloris’ understudies with the French national team, won the Ligue 1 title with Lille on Sunday. He has spent the last six seasons with Lille after starting his career with Paris Saint-Germain.
His arrival makes it almost certain that Gianluigi Donnarumma will leave Milan as a free agent when his contract expires this summer, according to the reports which have been circulating in the media over the past few days.
Despite having Edouard Mendy and Kepa at the club, there has been alot of speculation in the media that Thomas Tuchel still wants to add another stopper to the squad in the transfer window, and Donnarumma is on the list.
The Italian is already regarded as one of the very best in Europe right now and is tipped to become one of the greatest goalkeepers in world football.
Donnarumma and Milan have been unable to agree on a new contract to extend his stay after a series of meetings.
