Chelsea to announce two defensive players as team report for training

Chelsea has been looking to bolster their squad lately. They were successful in landing two world-class stars earlier itself. But Frank Lampard was pressuring for more changes after their UCL knockout against Bayern. One of the key areas of his focus has been the left-back role. The Blues haven’t been able to bring in a long-term solution for the wing-back yet.

Hence, Lampard did prioritize signing a left-back this summer. Ben Chilwell has always been on his wishlist. As per the latest reports, the England international will be soon signing a deal with Chelsea. The Blues have come to an agreement with Leicester City on a £50m deal, as per The Atletic. So we may see the official updates come out in the coming weeks.

Ben Chilwell has been key to Leicester’s great run this season. Though the Foxes were not able to finish in the top four, shattering their UCL dreams. Leicester put up a competitive campaign this term. Playing the pivotal role in the amazing run, Chilwell has also been on the radar of many clubs. But Chelsea has been the ones to have made headlines most along with him.

Chilwell has been Lampard’s top priority to fix his left-back issue. Marina Granovskaia was reluctant in investing the initial £80M on him. But now it seems like the clubs have made an agreement on a £50M transfer. But Chilwell may not be able to star for Chelsea soon though.

The Englishman picked up an injury in a game against Crystal Palace. Leaving him out of the lineup for Leicester’s last five matches. It seems as though the left-back may take more time to recover. Hence, Chilwell may not make an appearance initially in the next campaign.

THE BLUES ARE BACK AT COBHAM

All of the stars will be going through a COVID 19 test to follow procedures. After the pandemic took a deep toll on the world, football has also been cautious.

Chelsea will be holding the training sessions in few numbers before the complete squad comes in. The stars who were on loan last season are already in training. For Lampard to analyze the stars and think about their role in the squad.

Some stars may be loaned away this season as well. Conor Gallagher and Ethan Ampadu are the most likely players to leave on loan. Chelsea are keen to get back stronger for the next term. After finishing fourth in the season that just completed, the Blues expect better in 2020-21. Lampard is also considering on landing some more stars before the window closes. After building a concrete frontline, Lampard is now fixing the backline. The gaffer has multiple targets in his mind and is pursuing a deal.

THIAGO SILVA MAY ARRIVE SOON
Lampard has been in search for a central defender this summer. After putting up four of his defensive options on sale. Frank needs some new recruits to fill the gaps. He has already been targeting John Stones and Declan Rice. Frank may soon get the official update of Chilwell’s arrival to resolve the wing-back problem.

But the latest reports reveal that Chelsea may target Brazilian defender Thiago Silva. The PSG man is set to leave the French league this summer. The Blues are looking forward to signing the 35-year-old on a free transfer. This will be a huge boost for the backline, as the Brazilian has been one of the best defenders in the game.

His speed and tactical play will help Chelsea to close the gaps in the defense. Silva is also known for his aerial skills and interceptions. So landing him will help Chelsea with their defensive issues. Lampard is also hoping to sign a new No.1, but Marina will be cautious of the expenditure.
