Club president reveals player ‘better than Mbappe’ could be heading to Stamford Bridge
This summer, Ousmane Dembele is a target for Chelsea.
If the Blues are to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool next season, Thomas Tuchel is determined to enhance his attacking potency.
Dembele has previously been hailed as being “better than Kylian Mbappe.”
Mbappe, who has been a phenomenal player since he was 17, has been one of football’s best forwards over the last four years.
Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s president, claimed earlier this season that Mbappe was ‘better’ than the France international.
“We have a very good relationship with Dembele and he wants to stay,” he said in January.
“We also want him because he is a great player. These are situations that need a negotiation with the representatives who want the best for the player.
“I am enthusiastic about Dembele – he is better than Mbappe.”
Barcelona coach Xavi remains hopeful of Ousmane Dembele signing a new contract with Barcelona.
The France international’s current deal with Barcelona expires this month and he is in talks with Chelsea to sign as a free agent.
According to Marca, Xavi is one of the Frenchman’s biggest fans at the club and internally he has been asking for an effort to be made to secure his future.
Meanwhile, negotiations have been at a standstill for some time now, partly due to the club’s financial situation.
