Last season’s Champions League saw Chelsea grouped with Dutch giants Ajax, Valencia and Lille. It was a tough Champions League group, with Lille as the whopping boys. Chelsea managed to qualify as second from the group, and Valencia were the surprise leaders of the group.
For next season, Chelsea will definitely be given a tricky fixture after being put in pot two.
The pot one teams are: Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, PSG, Zenit St Petersburg, Inter Milan or Sevilla, Porto.
The pot two teams are: Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Shakhtar Donetsk and one of Sevilla, Benfica or Ajax.
Teams in pot three include: Benfica or Inter Milan, Ajax, Dynamo Kiev, RB Salzburg, RB Leipzig, Olympiacos, Lazio, Celtic.
Pot four teams include Atalanta, Dynamo Zagreb, Lokomotiv Moscow, Marseille, Club Brugge, Borussia Monchengladbach, Istanbul Basaksehir, Stade Rennais.
Chelsea will be grouped with teams from pot one, three and four. However, the Blues won’t be able to play Liverpool in the group stage, as both sides are from the same leagues.
