Just In: Leverkusen chief responds to report about giving Chelsea August 28 deadline to seal Kai Havertz deal

According to the Daily Express, Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia is confident of signing 21-year-old Kai Havertz and the deal could be completed within a week. Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen are edging closer to an agreement after initially being £20million apart in their valuations.

Chelsea seem to be the only club going for Havertz, and reports claim that the Blues have been given a deadline of August 28 to seal the deal.

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has reiterated his warning that although the club will want to sell Kai Havertz, he won’t be joining Chelsea for a coronavirus discount fee.

He told Sportbuzzer: “In times of Corona it may actually be that the transfer fees have decreased for many players.

“But Corona or Corona – this is not the case with exceptional players like Havertz or Jadon Sancho. There’s no Corona discount for them.

“Of course we would be very happy if he stayed for another year. It is clear that the departure of such a player, despite the high transfer fee, always means a loss – see Leipzig and Werner.”
