Reports claims that Leicester City originally valued the 23-year-old at £80 million but Chelsea were reluctant to pay so much for the defender.
According to The Times, Chelsea have made a ‘breakthrough’ in transfer negotiations with Leicester City, with the Blues set to pay more than £68 million for Chilwell, which will make him the most expensive left-back in the world.
Bayern Munich left Lucas Hernandez is currently the most expensive left-back in the world after the German champions paid £68 million to sign him in the summer of 2019.
Chilwell’s potential arrival would be Chelsea’s third summer signing and ensure Lampard lands another of his main summer targets.
Chilwell is keen on a move to Chelsea and has reportedly cleared out his belongings at the Foxes’ training ground ahead of a medical at Chelsea in the coming days.
