Confirmed Chelsea summer signing set to miss out next two weeks
Chelsea reportedly face being without summer signing Edouard Mendy for up to two weeks after he sustained an injury while being on international break.
The 28-year-old stopper has arrived at Stamford Bridge in a £22m transfer two weeks ago, helping to resolve Frank Lampard’s headache of finding a long-term replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Mendy has already made a couple of appearances for the West London club, keeping a clean sheet on his Premier League debut in last weekend’s 4-0 victory over London rivals Crystal Palace.
However, the ex-Rennes keeper damaged his thigh while away with Senegal national team this week and has since returned to London to undergo treatment.
According to the Daily Mail, the Blues expect to be without Mendy for a maximum of a fortnight, although that will only likely rule him out of one game – next week’s league visit of Southampton.
The report claims that Lampard hopes to have his new first-choice stopper back available for his side’s Champions League Group E game against La Liga giants Sevilla on October 20.
