Deal On: Lampard told board to land £109 million La Liga defender to solve leaky Chelsea defense

Chelsea’s issues at the back were highlighted as the Blues lost 5-3 to Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Chelsea have conceded 54 goals this season, the most by any club in the top ten.

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea have watched Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez as Frank Lampard assesses his options for defensive signings this summer.

Chelsea scouts have watched Gimenez several times this season and Lampard is reportedly interested in the 25 year old defender because of his height.

Lampard is keen on signing defenders good in the air to help solve issues in defending set-pieces.

The Uruguayan has a £109m release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.
