Didier Drogba ‘Hits back’ at Jurgen Klopp latest comments on AFCON

Recently, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp drew the wrath of Africans all over the world when he regarded the African Cup of Nations as a little tournament.

However, back in November, Klopp was asked if he was relieved there was no international break until March next year, to which he replied: “I have heard that so often that there is no international break until March.

“In January, there is a little tournament in Africa, I just want to say, and I think Asia is playing games too, South America as well, great, can’t wait.”

Klopp ended up backtracking on his statement as he tried to defend his use of the word ‘little’, but the damage has already been done.

With the AFCON done and dusted, with Senegal as the winners, Chelsea and Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba, took a dig at Klopp over his comments.

The former Ivory Coast striker shared a video of Senegal fans celebrating their 2021 AFCON triumph and captioned it: “A « little tournament » that means a lot for us Africans.”

You’d recall that Drogba is a massive legend at Ivory Coast and used his influence to stop his country from the havoc of civil war more than a decade ago.
