‘Direct contact made’ Lampard drops huge hint world class striker is on way to Chelsea this summer

Frank Lampard has started following transfer target Dries Mertens on Instagram, ahead of his proposed move to Chelsea. Chelsea were able to delve into their transfer kitty this transfer window after getting their transfer ban overturned just a few months ago.

But despite all the talk, and despite all the speculation surrounding possible new Chelsea signings, Frank Lampard has been unable to complete the transfer deals that he would have liked and will now have to wait until the summer to get his transfer deals done.

And that has led to speculation in the media suggesting that a new striker will be a priority for the Blues boss, as he needs to add a top-class forward to help Tammy Abraham out with the goals, with Mertens constantly linked with a free move to Stamford Bridge.

Recent reports have claimed that Frank Lampard has spoken to Mertens about a move to Chelsea Fc in the summer window, as he is keen to make sure that he lands a striker to help out Tammy Abraham next seasons. According to Italian publication II Mattino, Lampard has already been laying the groundwork to fend off rivals and secure Mertens’ free transfer.

The coronavirus pandemic is set to have a huge impact on the summer’s window, so Mertens’ availability for nothing makes him even more desirable, and reports claim he has made direct contact with the 33-year-old and his representatives to assess whether a move to London would interest him.

Mertens, 32, has scored 121 goals and provided 73 assists in 311 appearances since joining Napoli from PSV Eindhoven in 2013 and despite his ageing years, he is still considered to be one of the most deadly strikers in Europe right now.

Lampard does not need to add a striker to his side that will come in and want to play on a weekly basis, he just needs a forward that will be able to teach Abraham a few things about being a top-level striker, and to help the young Englishman out.

Is Mertens too old for the Premier League? maybe he is, but he has that experience and quality that most managers like to see and if he is coming to the Bridge on a big contract but no fee, he could be a real bargain. Olivier Giroud seems to be heading out and Mertens is needed, he could be a fantastic signing for the club.
