Chelsea has since acquired Denis Zakaria from Juventus to address its current midfield crisis.
The Swiss player, who cost £4 million when he left Borussia Monchengladbach for Juventus in January, has since switched to Chelsea.
Attempts by Chelsea to sign Edson Alvarez or Ibrahim Sangare on the final day of the transfer window failed.
However, Confirmed reports have it that Chelsea have sealed a deal for the 25-year-old Swiss international.
The deal is a loan deal with an option to buy of £30m, and a potential five year contract.
The Swiss international stand at 6ft 3ins, and had been recommended by former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick to the Old Trafford club.
