€80m Chelsea signing plans to revive his career elsewhere

Chelsea new goalkeeper Edouard Mendy’s brilliant start to his Chelsea career has forced his fellow goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to settle for a place on the bench.

He has also dropped down the pecking order with Spain’s national team, with Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon and Manchester United’s David de Gea ahead of Kepa.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed in his podcast the management will allow the 26-year-old star to pack his bags in the winter transfer window.

Fabrizio’s claims have been relayed by Spanish newspaper AS and they also provide their own information on this case. The one thing that worries the former La Liga stopper the most is his place with his country for the next summer’s European championship.

He needs to have more minutes under his belt in order to convince manager Luis Enrique to include him in his plans with La Roja.

The custodian sees departing Stamford Bridge in two months as a ‘solution’ to meet his needs of playing week in, week out.

Chelsea paid €80m for the player in 2018 and AS are of the belief it will not be easy for the Premier League side to recover most of the money invested on Kepa’s signing in the January transfer market session.

Therefore, the ‘logical thing’ is to think of a loan move for the second half of the campaign.

AS also claims it remains to be seen what transfer market opportunities are presented to Chelsea, meaning clubs are yet to come forward to take Arrizabalaga in January, even on a loan deal.
