FA Cup brings new rule after Arsenal defeated Chelsea in the last FA Cup final

According to reports, There will be new changes to the FA Cup for next season, as the Cup competition will start with the extra preliminary round on September 1 and the final is due to be played at Wembley on May 15.

However, Arsenal are the current holders of the FA Cup, after the Gunners defeated Chelsea 2-1 win the FA Cup trophy, earlier this month.

The Premier League will start on September 12, which is the furthest a league season will start in recent times, due to the impact of the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

With many games to play under a shorter time span, the Football Association has decided to scrap FA Cup replays next season to ease the pressure on the football calendar.

It will be the first time in history the competition will take place without replays – due to the impact Covid-19 has had on the game.

The FA Cup prize money has been halved for next season, no thanks to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, with the winners to receive £1.8m instead of £3.6m.

The Carabao Cup semi-finals will also be a one-legged affair next season, which is good news for Chelsea, as teams will have time to rest for their Champions League fixtures.

Fixtures for the 2020-21 English Football League (EFL) season will be released on August 21, with the Championship, League One and League Two all scheduled to start on September 12.
