Fabrizio Romano: I can confirm Chelsea are interested in signing these 2 defenders after completing Koulibaly deal

After concluding a deal to sign Kalidou Koulibaly, renowned writer Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea are interested in adding two more defenders.

On Wednesday, July 13, the transfer guru announced that the Blues and Serie A powerhouse Napoli had reached a €40 million transfer agreement for Kalidou Koulibaly.

According to the Italian writer, Chelsea is reportedly interested in signing Presnel Kimpembe and Nathan Ake from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively. In the backline, the pair are apparently Thomas Tuchel’s top priority this summer, with Matthijs de Ligt reportedly close to joining Bayern Munich.

On Wednesday, Chelsea finally announced the transfer of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City but has yet to do so for Koulibaly (July 13).

The former Liverpool winger is the first significant addition of the Todd Boehly era, and Koulibaly is most likely to follow.

The departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have left Tuchel’s team with few options at the back. The two central defenders left the Blues this summer on free transfers, going to Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.

At the moment, their only choices at the defensive center are Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva, and Trevoh Chalobah.

The Blues are anticipated to focus their efforts on adding at least one more defender to their roster now that Koulibaly’s introduction is merely a formality.
