There will be a lot of issue with football legalities if the current season extends beyond June, as players with expired contracts might choose to leave their clubs.

It is expected that the season may linger longer than June when players contracts expire, and it will be a difficult one for clubs who won’t be able to replace players.

FIFA are unable to legally oblige players to stay until the end of the season, and now football’s governing body have decided to stop registering new deals until the season ends, thus forcing players in the final year of their contracts to remain at their current clubs until the season finally ends.

FIFA’s legal director Emilio Garcia Silvero told Cadena Cope (h/t Calciomercato): “FIFA cannot extend the contracts beyond June 30 but the transfer windows will not be the same and the players will not be able to be registered.

“It means the market will not open on July 1. And if a loan ends on June 30, the player should return to his club but the window would not be open and the return transfer would not be processed.”
