Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour joined the Blues from Rangers in 2017 as a 16-year-old youngster, and the teenager is highly rated in Scotland. However, Gilmour must prove himself at Stamford Bridge to get into a star studded Chelsea team.
Gilmour was playing with the youth team and was set to leave on loan in January, but he has revealed how Chelsea boss Frank Lampard and his assistant Jody Morris, convinced him to remain at the club to train with the first team. Gilmour has now revealed how happy he was to get an opportunity to train with the senior team.
“Around Christmas time, I was thinking that I might go out on loan for the rest of the season but got told to stay again and got moved into the first team building,” he told the club’s website as he opened up about the fast turn his Chelsea career took over the winter.
“The gaffer and Jody spoke to me and said they thought it was best for me to stay, play games with the Under-23s and train with the first team a lot more.
“I was happy with that, especially the chance to get more opportunities to train with the first team and express myself and show them what I’m about.
“That’s when I started to kick on from there by playing games consecutively and playing well. “It’s worked out really well for me and all I can do is thank the manager for trusting in me.”
Gilmour has benefitted from his decision to not go out loan after consecutive man of the match performances against Liverpool and Everton.
