GOOD NEWS: Chelsea ‘clearly ahead’ in race to sign Napoli defender

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has largely spent this season rotating his four current centre back options, failing to settle with a regular two.

This would suggest that he is quite unsure on which defenders he rates the most in his current squad, with none of them really having great seasons so far.

All of them you can say are decent defenders, but you can’t really say that Lampard sees any of them as indispensable. I think it is safe to say that if an opportunity arises to sign a world class centre back such as Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, then Lampard will certainly consider it.

And according to Italian Journalist Massimo Brambati, Chelsea are ‘clearly ahead’ of the competition to sign Koulibaly this summer, as cited by Sport Witness.

Interestingly, the clubs he claims Chelsea are ahead of is their English rivals Manchester United and Manchester City. Brambati said: “I have received three market news.

“The most important one concerns Naples. They tell me that Kalidou Koulibaly will leave Naples. “On his trail, there are three clubs: Chelsea, Manchester United and City coached by Spanish coach Pep Guardiola.

“Chelsea would be clearly ahead of the other two clubs.” This would be an excellent signing for Chelsea if they pulled it off.
