‘He knows we watch him constantly, but Tuchel won’t praise him’ – England boss says of Chelsea player

With two Chelsea strikers injured both Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku are out, Hudson-Odoi has gotten a place the team and he has done very well and proving himself.

However, in recent weeks, Callum Hudson-Odoi has been one of Chelsea’s best players, and the 20-year-old has shown the manager just how good he can become if given more playing time.

Having started the season playing as third choice right wing-back and also far behind in the attacking areas, Hudson-Odoi has now become an increasingly important part of the Chelsea squad.

The 20-year-old has had three England caps but hasn’t gotten a call-up to the senior team since 2019, and Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has urged him to keep improving.

Meanwhile, England boss Gareth Southgate believes Hudson-Odoi is developing well and doesn’t think Tuchel would praise him anytime soon, but revealed that the England crew are watching him already.

“He has had a good couple of matches for Chelsea, I know Thomas is guarded about how much he goes with praise on that. It’s good to see him back playing and playing more regularly at first-team level. He knows we are constantly watching him. Southgate said.

“He’s young enough and talented enough to make a serious challenge as we move forward.”
