“He left Chelsea because of money”- Roman Abramovich slams former Chelsea player

Former Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge has finally revealed how Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich jokingly disapproved of his transfer to Manchester City in 2009.

Bridge joined Chelsea from Southampton in the summer of 2003 and went on to make 142 appearances for the club across all competitions, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup along the way before leaving for Manchester City in 2009.

He was one of the first big-name signings to arrive at the Etihad Stadium after they were bought by the Abu Dhabi United Group led by Sheikh Mansour.

Bridge, speaking to Goal, said of Abramovich’s reaction: “We met shortly after the transfer. He joked that I only moved to City because of the money!”
