‘He will score 30goals a season if his teammates understand him better — Rio Ferdinand says of Chelsea player

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has bagged 12 goals in all competitions this season, with his latest goal coming in the 2-0 victory over Porto in the Champions League quarter-final tie on Wednesday night.

To score the goal, Mount found space on the right side of the Porto defence, and Jorginho found him with a fine pass from deep. Mount’s first touch was enough to confuse the Porto defence, and his shot beat the goalkeeper at his far left.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, was full of praise for Mount following his goal.

“What I like about him [Mount] is his movements off the ball to get on the ball,” he said.

“It’s beautiful, it brought [the ball] straight into his path,” the former England international said of Mount’s first touch before his goal during BT Sport’s post-match coverage.

“And it was one touch-to-shoot straight away.”

Rio Ferdinand also hailed Mount’s movement and claims that his teammates need to keep feeding him the ball because he makes dangerous movements all game.

“What I like about him [Mount] is his movements off the ball to get on the ball,” he went on.

“Once the other players start realising that he actually makes movements to get beyond the [opposition] defenders and start playing the ball a little bit longer than a 10-yard [pass] to feet, he will get more opportunity [to score].

“Because he made runs that no one saw, and he [would have been] in if they had played the ball forward.”
